The ultra-slim PENTAX Optio P80 digital camera features a lightweight design in three fashionable colors including Black, Pearl, and Mint. This stylish camera features a lightweight body with advanced features including 12.1 megapixels, a 4X wide angle optical zoom, HD video capture, Shake Reduction, Face Detection and Smile Recognition. Great shots come easily with an Auto Picture mode that selects from eight shooting modes. The large 2.7 inch LCD ensures accurate composition and playback of still images and video. Sensitivity up to ISO 6400 boosts shutter speeds to freeze subject movement for blur-free images even in low lighting.

Grainy and blurry
After my Panasonic FS7 took a tumble (boy was it fragile...don't dare drop it while it's on), I decided to replace it with the P80. I was terribly disappointed in the quality of photos. Granted, I realize that all digital point and shoots will have less than optimal quality in low light, but this was plain HORRIBLE. Everything was orangish and grainy. Also, maybe the autofocus and autoiso features apparently did not work properly, because 80% of the photos were a blur. I had to return this piece of crap. I decided to go back to Panasonic and got the ZR1. Pentax had one chance to impress and failed.

Pass...
I really wanted to like this camera. It's very nice externally, but the pictures were barely decent. We tried all the settings, customized the settings, tried different lighting but most of them came out grainy. I was excited about the HD video recording capability as we have a new baby. It looked like she was covered with ants! Also, the rechargeable battery drained pretty quickly after a few snaps and turning it off and on a couple of times. I ended up returning it.

Portability
I bought this because I had given my 8mp SE phone to my mom (along with my Sony camera). I realized that my Sony was bulky to carry around and did not prove as effective as when I was a student (took it to games and stuff). So, this is my continuing saga where I research on really good brands that most of my 'desi' friends aren't even aware of. They say "Pentax??!! What the heck is that? Why didn't you buy a Canon or a Sony?" The picture quality, face recognition and the speed are very nice. This is basically what you'd NEED but may not WANT. There are a lot of built-in profiles that are very easy to set the camera to in an instant. The interface is okay but I think I personally might want some more (I see everything as computers ...) Anyway, awesome buy. And, I did have a 20 bucks manufacturer's discount.

Pretty good little camera
Overall, I find this a pretty good little digital point and shoot, and a good replacement for our earlier model of Pentax Optio. For indoor shooting, I am impressed at the depth achieved by the flash -- much better than our earlier model. In fact, I really wasn't expecting such good results. If I were to fault the camera at all, I would say that the colors in the photos are vibrant -- perhaps a bit more vibrant than in actuality. Still, that is a minor problem -- if a problem at all -- for a digital camera in such a portable package.

Good vacation camera
I have been using a Pentax camera, mostly on vacations, for several year and am pleased with it. I wanted a camera with a wide angle lense so I could take group pictures and landscapes without leaving out part of the scene I wanted.
After I received the Pentax P80 and started taking test pictures to see how it works, I found that the advertising about "wide angle" lense was misleading. What the camera does is stitch two or three pictures together to make one wide picture. That is hardly a wide angle lense. I already had a Canon camera that allows me to take two pictures and then stitch them together with the software Cannon provided. The Canon is a much larger camera and it is still difficult to take two pictures that can match each other enough to stitch them together. The Pentax is very small (which I like) but it is almost impossible to take two or three pictures that match enough to stitch together.
I should have known better to think I could get a wide angle lense on a camera that only cost $130. But the darn thing is so easy to carry around, and takes such good pictures, that I won't leave home without it (and my cell phone, of course).

MD) CL) PENTAX OPTIO S5I DIGITAL CAM
Customer Review :
Great small camera
I got this when my Kodak Easy Share broke. I wanted something smaller w/ more pixels. When I got the Optio was suprised by how small it actually is, it really would fit in an altoid container (as pictured).
Things I like about it are it's speed, the clarity of pictures, and the quality of the camera. The # of features.
Things I dislike are the colors are slightly dimmer than my old kodak and the operating menus are difficult to figure out, you definately need to read the manual.
Overall I love this camera, but I did notice the price is up about $50 from when I bought it. I'm not sure how it compares to other cameras in it's new price range.

very good but no waterproofing
this is a great camera for traveling, it is small enough to fit into your top pocket, so it can go anywhere. the only problem that i have is that there is no underwater housing for it, if there was i would have given it a 5*.

Great digital camera
We really like this camera! It's a WHOLE lot better than our previous one, which ran off 4 AA batteries, and ran THROUGH so many AA batteries so quickly that we can't even guess how many $$ that wasted. This Optio camera uses very nice rechargable batteries that cost $5 each through Ebay (don't buy them here on Amazon... ouch!) We've got 3 batteries and are getting two more so that we never even have to worry about power while on a long trip. (The really handy travel charger is also awesome... get it on Ebay for just a few bucks.)
The startup time and shutter speed are very fast, so catching quick pictures is finally possible for us. (My wife no longer threatens to go back to film after using this camera!) Our last camera would take so long to focus that we never got the candid shots we wanted.
The one and only thing that's even a slight problem with this camera is the power button being next to the shutter button. (What clueless engineer thought THAT would be good??) However, now that we've used it a lot, we never hit the button by accident.
All other features of the camera are great. With a 1 GB memory card, we've never ever run out of memory space, even with taking lots of short videos and many many pictures on medium quality.
Great camera, worth every cent. Buy the accessories on Ebay and you'll find that getting everything you need is not very expensive at all. (Actually, we bought the camera on Ebay too, but these reviews are great here on Amazon. Thanks, Amazon!)

unbreakable
I have been through 6 cameras in the past 3 years, of all different kinds of brands and price. I have changed so many times because they get stolen or broken...this little pentax optio was surprising though! 3 months after having it around, i brought it to the desert and it got some sand in it, but I had it fixed. THis same camera also fell three floors down and nothing was damaged; neither the screen, the lens, nor the flash. it just got cracked a bit and twisted, and the battery/memory card cover is completely damaged, but it still works like it should!

Great on size, inconsistant performance.
This is my 2nd Pentax digital camera, and I have owned it for 2 years. I've always liked the what they have been doing with the sizing of the cameras, keeping the very small. This one is, very small, so it's great for any situation because you can carry it around like a cell phone. Picture quality for the most part, is very good.
The problem I have with this camera is the inconsistant performance. Day time shots are great, but low light or evening shots are not the best. There are different modes you can use, but I have found the night shot mode to be worthless. You have to hold the camera still for several seconds, but my shots have always blurred severely. The other problem I have expirienced is with the shutter release. On most digital cameras, you press the shutter release about 1/2 way and the camera lets you know when it's ready to take the picture (light changing, focus box on lcd, etc.). About 1/3 of the time, this pentax will not take the picture once you think it's ready. It requires about 5-6 additional presses on the shutter release to take the picture. Very annoying when you have someone waiting for you to take their picture and the camera won't work. One other thing is that with all the ultra compacts out now with 2.5" to 3.0" LCDs, this 1.8" is starting to feel quite small.
I have had good luck with Pentax before and I won't let these few annoyances deter me from puchasing another pentax. If you are looking for a small, compact, digital camera, I would suggest other pentax models such as the T10 or T20 which are in the same price range, but newer.

HONEYWELL HIGH VELOCITY TURBO TABLE/FLOOR OSCILLATION
Customer Review :
Can't Find A Better Small Camera
Where can you find a 12 MP camera at that price? Nowhere, period. This camera is number 8 digital camera in the house, but it is the only one my wife will use. Small, fits in her purse, takes great pictures. It was all that she wanted in a camera and then some. Pentax makes a great camera, what more need be said.
Rating :
Solid build, tasteless photos
This device seems well built and give a good impression of quality and sturdiness, but photos are average in the best of cases. Colors are bland, video recording is just OK and the audio lacks definition. I chose Pentax because it used to be a famous brand, but now seems placed years light from Canon or Nikkon, maybe levelled with Kodak.

Great Camera for Anyone!
The Pentax Optio P70 takes great pictures, is easy to use (especially for the "not so techno-savvy" amateur). I bought the camera before I left for Argentina.... read my manual on the flight and had no problem with all the basic shooting functions. I didn't try the video but mostly because I am fearful of technology! This camera does it all! Great pix....and it's small, durable and fast.

Nice pics, BUT horrendously slow processing time = 1 star
I wanted to like this simple point and shoot. The photos were very nice, especially for the price. camera easy to use; build quality much better than average, but the killer was 9 seconds between shots, take a picture, it says processing for approx. 9 seconds! way too long. not convenient. I returned it.

For the price, excellent camera!
I have used this camera for a long time and I have just replaced it with a more expensive model. This camera is sturdy, light, small and very effective at taking pictures and shooting movies.

don't bother with this camera
I bought this camera on Amazon in June 2009. It has been malfunctioning but Pentax service center can't fix the problem. The camera burns through batteries very quickly. Suddenly, in Nov 2009 the viewer (EVF and LCD screen) started showing in reverse colors (green was red, black was white, etc.) The photos I took while it was doing this were ok, but it was too difficult to compose a picture. Also the camera would suddenly freeze off but with the on/off button showing on. I had to pop the battery, and then reset my settings. Sometimes (as often as 3 times per day) it spontaneously resets the date to June 1 1970 and resets all my sound and review settings (that I use to try to preserve battery life.) Pentax service center fixed the reverse view problem but can't figure out the on/off button problem or the spontaneous reset problems. I'm very disappointed with this camera.

Pentax X70: great travel camera compared to Canon SLR
Purchased originally for a trip to Africa. The light weight, super-zoom capability, and high picture quality made it an excellent choice. Went with friends who brought well over $1500 worth of new Canon SLR with multiple lenses. The X70 allowed me to react MUCH more quickly to the situation and get some truly excellent shots of game/landscape. Often, our friends with the SLR were left fumbling with lenses as animals ran away. Picture stabilization for high zoom photos worked extremely well in bright light, less so with the limitations of low light. The zoom control itself is a little twitchy but definitely gets easier to use with practice. The view finder screen made shooting in sunny conditions easy, something I have found impossible with view screen only cameras. For sticking in a backpack and hiking, it is truly excellent due to the light weight, flexibility, and high picture quality. The SLR got left behind: too heavy! Battery life, while not amazing, was very good as I was able to get at least 2 days of hard zooming use out of a battery charge. When we got home, the pictures from the SLR were of higher resolution when viewed on a big screen HDTV. The difference was small however and would not have been noticeable without the direct comparison. On a 17" computer screen, the difference is insignificant. The color of the X70 pics is excellent and equal or superior to the big SLR. The quality of prints seems more related to the printing process than the pics themselves as, on the same high quality printer, the pics cannot be distinguished from each other based on resolution/quality. Maybe sharper colors from the Pentax but small difference. When our friends printed up a picture book of the trip (where we spent about one of three weeks together), nearly half the pictures chosen were from our camera! For use around home both inside and outdoors the Pentax easily replaces my previous point and shoot digital cameras for family photos giving shots of higher quality.
On balance, I would say the X70 is an excellent choice for the traveler who wants higher picture quality and more capability from a camera without the weight and significantly higher price of an SLR. It's easy to use, takes excellent pictures of high resolution and superior color, is very deep in features/capabilities, is light and compact for travel, and represents excellent value for money. The 24X superzoom capability gives amazing results. If you're an amateur photographer with an active lifestyle and travel aspirations, I highly recommend it. It's much closer to a digital SLR than the point and shoot it really is.

Great Camera!
This camera is great. It's my first "professional" camera, and I just love it! I'm constantly playing with it and learning new things it can do. I'm shaky from meds I take, and almost every picture I take is clear as ever! Awesome camera.

GREAT camera
All I can tell you is this is a VERY GOOD camera. I couldn't afford to spend thousands of $$$ on a camera and lens. This camera does it all, takes great pictures, can really zoom in, and is very easy to use.

No ... firewire is a different protocol all togetherThere are only a few older DSLR's that have firewire connections. Why do you want to connect the camera to your computer? Question : Pentax digital camera not connecting to Vista computer to upload pictures?
I've been trying to fix my dad's computer and camera problem. He has a Pentax digital camera and when we connect it to his computer with the USB cable nothing happens... usually when a camera is connected it will prompt something to appear on the screen and then you can upload photos from the camera, but in this case nothing happens. I've made sure the camera is ON and in playback mode. The USB cable seems to be OK. Also, tried different USB ports on the computer. Anyone have any ideas?

Question : Problem with my Pentax digital camera. New batteries keep saying batteries depleted?
My screen on my Pentax digital camera keeps saying batteries depleted even though I have new batteries in the camera. Help
Answer:
I dont know which model you have from Pentax but my model Optio 30 also has the same trouble. My experience is if you have a pair of new alkalines it will work otherwise not at all. Rechargable batteries should do better but I never tried them. I tried CRV3 once, it is good but of a little bit more initial cost. It will do better if you follow some strategies to avoid battery consumption such as turning off the LCD screen, less use of zooming and flash, etc. Otherwise, Pentax is better in performance than many cameras and my model is very good for shooting practise.

Turn it on.Point it at what you want to capture.Press the shutter release.Hope that isn't too confusing for you.

Question : How do I change the date on my pentax optio digital camera??
The digital read of the date on my camera is wrong. i would like to be able to lood at my pics and have the right date taken displayed. does anyone know how i change it on the camera??
Answer:
Read the booklet that came with the camera, that's why companies include them in the box!You didn't indicate which model you own so it's difficult to give you exact instructions. But since most Pentax cameras have similar layouts and buttons, the general way to change the date and time is to go into your settings via the "Menu" button. You should be able to see a "Date Adjust" item in there. If not, use the 4-way controller to navigate through the menu. From here, it should be pretty simple; use the 4-way to adjust the date and time settings.

Question : Pentax ist digital camera not working with fresh batteries?
My Pentax ist appeared to be out of batteries, so I replaced them, but it is still displaying the low battery icon and not turning on. I've had this happen before with cheap batteries that don't have enough power to run the camera, but I just put in Energizer lithium batteries which can usually power it for a few weeks, or even months depending on how many pictures I take. I'm going on a trip in a few days, and would really like to have a working camera with me, any help is appreciated :)
Answer:
I have an *ist Ds model, and it never really liked lithium's either. Probably should look in the manual and see if lithium's are even recommended, but really my cam works best with plain old energizers, and also rechargeable crv-3 batteries. Oh and of course pull them out, and make sure you have them installed correctly (duh). Good luck :)
