Excellent Camera
This is an awesome camera especially for taking easy point and shoot photos. This camera is totally dumb-proof...anyone can figure it out. I recently used it for my grad school graduation and it took perfect pictures. Even my 6 year old niece took excellent pictures with this camera.

Big waste of my money
I was really disappointed with this camera. I wish I had returned it. I went and bought a new (and cheaper) Nikon which I use instead. Here were my problems with it:
Once you push the button to take a picture, it takes a couple seconds to take it. This is a dealbreaker for me with a camera. The five-year-old camera that I was replacing took pictures immediately.
The pictures have different dimensions than most cameras. So if you get your pictures developed at 4x6, you will either need to edit all the pictures first to crop them yourself, or risk peoples heads being chopped off. The dimensions are not a problem if you just look at your pictures on a computer. They are the dimensions of HDTV.
The ONLY reason I bought this camera was because of the front display. I am going on vacation with my boyfriend and wanted to take great pictures of the two of us in front of the Eiffel tower, etc. This feature let me down because the touch screen is so large on the back that when I turn it around I tend to accidentally touch it and mess with the settings. Also, since it takes so long to take the picture, someone usually does something weird with their face before the picture actually takes.
I did not find the use of this camera's menus, etc., to be intuitive. I am in my early twenties and can usually figure out new technology easily, and using this was frustrating. I absolutely do not recommend this product and I will never buy a Samsung again.

Not Durable at all! so dissapointed
I have gone through THREE of these cameras, they break for no reason. I am an avid picture taker and was So excited to get this camera with the dual screens so me and my son could take fun pictures as well as me and my friends while we are out. All I did was turn the thing on and the lens got stuck in the on position and the screen wouldnt turn on at all. I took the battery in and out a few times and still nothing. It took great pictures when it did work. But going through 3 of them within 5 months was too much for me. Until Samsung can make a more durable lens (which if you go to best buy or another store to check this out you can feel that the lens is "loose"). I hope this review helps some people.

Good Camera
I had problems with this camera but Amazon worked with me and I was sent another camera. First camera would not even charge. The second camera was fine and my husband likes it.

A very good camera
I bought this camera for my wife and I can tell you it's very good for the price paid, we've taken pictures in almost every scene and they were great. The only down I can think of is the battery life when you turn on the front display, but we'll soon get a second battery to avoid running out of power.

Customer Review :
Horrible.
I had seen many commercials for this camera, thought the front screen was a cool feature, and really needed a new digital camera. All the qualities I need seemed to be there, so I went ahead and bought it. I wished I had waited awhile and read more reviews and not just bought it because it was new and different and had that extra screen feature. It is SUCH a waste of money. I wish I had figured it out before my return policy expired, because it was such a disappointment. I brought it with me to Florida and went to a theme park and managed to get decent pictures only because I stood super still and had time to stand there and take a picture rather then shoot quick ones. I found that the button kept getting stuck whenever I tried to snap a quick picture, and I'd have to repeatedly press and hold until it actually got the shot. Then about a week later I brought it with me to a concert for a band that I have been waiting to see for 5 years, and I got nothing but blurry, horrible pictures. It was so disappointing. I repeatedly tried changing the settings thinking that would make a difference and it really didn't. I took 226 pictures that night and the only sharp, decent ones I got maybe counted to about 10. The zoom was horrible and I was only 5 rows from the stage, yet people I know who were 20 rows back had clearer pictures then I did, and made it look like they were where I was sitting. You could make out facial features and details with their pictures and it looked so close you'd think they were standing right in front of them, yet I could see the veins on the guitarists hands and couldn't even capture a solid picture. Needless to say I won't ever buy Samsung again, and have contemplated calling them up and telling them about their awful product but figured this would be much more beneficial. Do not waste your money. The front screen isn't even worth it, even if you take a lot of self portraits or pictures with other people, the screen may seem convenient but the picture will probably end up unfocused anyways, don't bother.

You get what you pay for
I got this on sale for about $129, though its going for about $99 right now. Pros: Cheap/Affordable!, quality scenic photos, portable, lightweight Cons: Feels cheap, everything from the buttons to the rotating options wheel wreaks of poor construction. VERY poor at taking up close pictures (Thinking of taking a picture of a receipt or a ID with this camera? Think again!). rear LCD screen feels smaller than similar sized LCD's. Doesn't retract the zoom feature when in photo viewing mode like my canon.
Other notes: The front LCD really isnt as useful as one might think, unless you're taking a face shot of yourself, you most likely won't be using it. The rear LCD is a bit indented and looks smaller than other comparable LCD's. Most of the picture taking modes are useless... but that's to be expected with this pricing.
Summary: Would I buy this camera again? well I wish I had bought it at that $99 price tag instead of $129. It's cheap, it works great for scenic photos, it would make a good present for a teenager as the frontal LCD is fancy all be it rather useless outside of self photos.

Doesn't focus in video
I like the fact that there's a small screen in the front, but right after the picture's taken, the camera must stay there for a second in order for the camera to process it and the picture not be blurry. It wouldn't be so much a problem if I had steady hands. Also, in video, when you put text close up, it won't focus, which I'm sad about b/c I like to film videos that involve reading small text from time to time.

Buttons hard to read
I needed a camera quickly and bought this camera today for a function this weekend. It is going back to the store tomorrow. The problem is the case of the camera is black plastic and the functions buttons on the back are black on black, making them almost impossible to read. Why they put black on black is beyond comprehension. This camera is going back as I need to be able to see what the buttons are for without a flashlight. Now that I'm reading other reviews the picture quality seems to be lacking in this camera also.
Rating :
Not the best, but not the worst either
The camera takes good pictures, and the front screen is fun, but there's already 2 black lines across the back screen..... I don't think it should damage that easily... It doesn't affect the outcome of the photo any though. It's just a nuisance.

The Camera Standard
I bought this from Officemax for $100. Offers good specifications for the price.
Pros: - Rubberized buttons - Comes with a plastic faceplate case/cover (pretty much useless, but it's the thought that counts) - Auto mode adjusts to everything - Angled shoot button - 5x Optical Zoom
Cons: - Screen is a tad bit slow - You have to go into the menu to change modes, no simple button to press.
Standard point and shoot cameras these days come with 10mp, with 3x optical zoom. But this one comes with 5x optical zoom and 12.2 mp, which was a deal maker for me. Rubberized buttons feel good, adds to the durable feeling. And the angled shoot button is really interesting.
The picture quality is great with the 27mm wide lenses. Its no Schneider lens, but it gets the job done well. 12.2mp doesn't really help the camera out, and saving the picture between shots take a bit of time, unless you have a fast SD card. But you can always lower the megapixels down to 10.
[...]
The auto mode takes care of everything. It adjusts for shots at night, fast movement, colorful, and faces too. Good for the everyday user. You can also set it in manual mode if you want to pick the mode yourself. The camera even tells you not to take the picture if someone is blinking!
Overall, i chose this camera over the several kodak cameras at the same price point. It is the camera we have all come to expect from Samsung.
Tip: Buy a class 4 or higher SDHC card. It saves the pictures faster.

The perfect portrait system does all the work for you, to make sure your photos are beautiful. Plus, with digital image stabilization, photos are crystal clear, not blurry.
Customer Review :
Compared to Nikon and Panasonic
The Samsung HZ30W is an amazing little camera. I went to a store with my SD card and put it into three cameras. The Nikon S8000, the Panasonic TZ6 and this camera. I sort of figured a camera is a camera and the stills shots would be pretty much equal what would make or break it would be the video. So I shot stills and video on my SD card. I bought my 1GB SD from my Nikon Coolpix 7900, the S8000 just added its pictures and video to the list. The Panasonic added it's stills in and complained the card was not formatted by this camera for video use. Hmmm... And I'm a Panasonic fan too. I thought it did not record nay videos, but I found many short 1 second video when I got home.
The HZ30W added its pictures and video and had no complaints. The TZ6 shoots video in M-Jpeg mode and is very sharp. he Nikon and Samsung both shot in H.264 mode and were very comparable. The TZ6 was $89 more than the HZ30W, and the S800 was $59 more than the HZ30W.
After seeing the popup S8000 flash and wondering why they added moving parts for no good reason and also seeing the rubber plug covers, I was very impressed with the metal hinged door and metal knobs on the Samsung. The other two had burst mode, the Samsung did not. But after looking at the videos and stills I didn't think they justified the extra dollars.
I was very impressed by the 15x zoom on the HZ30W. The charger adapter come with a short about a 20 inch cord for USB to samsung power. So the battery is changed IN the camera. So buy an extra charger and batteries. My last Nikon suffered by the broken batter door, so I especially was impressed with the Samsung construction, It seem the best in the lot of these three. The 12 megapixels vs 14 isn't really an issue like it was years ago. The 15x zoom lens is a plus. The menus are well designed and easy to use and offers a lot, including face detection and shoot on smile! You can not shoot stills while recording video. It has lots of fun features, line drawing, Vivid, Cool, Warm and enough things to make almost every user happy. Based on price it's a great deal.

Not an SLR but I love it
I bought this camera through Amazon when the price dropped about a month or so ago. I did a lot of research first and wanted a camera that would fit in my purse (they best camera is the one you have with you at the time!!!)and there is no way I would lug around an SLR. I am pleased with the purchase overall. It seems solidly built, has a great LCD screen, telephoto, and being able to zoom while videoing was a necessity for me. They could have provided a thin neck strap instead of a wrist strap and a longer charging cord - this camera charges the battery while in the camera which I thought I wouldn't like since I was used to a separate charger that plugged directly in the wall but I actually do like it - it saves a step from having to remove the battery from camera and replace it later. I also like rechargeables over AA's - you save money over time. Lately I have noticed that the camera gets really hot and stays that way some time after turning it off. Has anyone else noticed this? I will need to investigate that. My old PS did not get hot like this one.

Very poor image quality
Bottom line: This feature packed camera has very poor image quality across a range of tests.
Me: Serious amateur shooter who prefers pocket-sized digital cameras for their portability to various places (sketchy locales or outdoor locations where a bulky camera is in the way).
Expectations: I currently use a Panasonic DMC-TZ5. It has excellent image quality but it does not allow for aperture or shutter speed control. The DMC-TZ5 also does exposure bracketing, which is good for HDR photography. The TZ5 has a good zoom (10x).
After reading extensive reviews on [...] where it's GPS-enabled cousin was favorably rated for its features and image quality, I bought the HZ30W because it has manual control, plus exposure bracketing, plus a good zoom in a small body.
Tests: I set both the HZ30W and the TZ5 up on tripods and shot landscape photos with a range of detail in good light using a range of values for both cameras (intelligent auto, auto with changes to the fine and pixel settings, various values in zoom, and macro shots). I also compared exposure bracketing and shot with the manual settings on the HZ30W. I also included a Canon S3 IS as comparison.
Results: The HZ30W was the worst camera of the three in terms of image quality across all of the tests, with the exception of very close-up macro shots, where it did a good job. The HZ30W has the best range of fun and possibly useful features (smile detection shoots a picture as soon as a smile is detected, for example), but the image quality problems mean I will never use it. It also has some quirks that are annoying. For example, the exposure bracketing is only in .5 increments (rather than 1.0 for the TZ5) and when you have the feature on, you can't use the timer, so you will get a bit of shake from pressing the button on the first photo. This makes aligning photos for HDR shots more problematic.
Advice: If you want zoom and take a lot of people shots, this camera may fit your needs. However, if you want to have photos larger than 3 x 5 prints, this is not the camera for you.
Rating :
Great camera!
I just got my new HZ30W in today and I am loving it.
The picture quality is great and the 15x zoom is fantastic. The camera has a lot of weight to it making it feel well built and solid in your hands. For the average person looking for a point and shoot this is the perfect camera.
However I would not recommend it for semi-professionals or professional photographers. The interface is time consuming and when you are constantly swapping modes and selecting functions to get the right shot as a photographer you'll go mad. But for me as an average Joe who just likes taking good pics it's perfect.
This camera accepts SDHC flash cards. I am happy to say that the Class 10 Transcend 16GB card works perfect with no compatibility issues in this camera. I get 3 hours and 25 minutes of 720p HD video recording or 2350 top quality still pics. And because it's a class 10 card it has transfer speeds of up to 20mb/s so you can take that next shot faster. Transcend 16GB Class 10 SDHC Card (TS16GSDHC10)
The devil is in the details in this camera. The interface is OK at best and it takes a while to get used to. But that aside once you get used to it and learn where everything is you will have no problems with this camera.
The LCD screen is simply flawless. Clear bright and auto adjusts to light in the room.
The buttons are all perfect except for one, The left button for the menu and it is also the flash control button. If you have a large thumb you will notice that where the LCD sticks out slightly you have to push your finger in the gap to depress the button. It's not a problem it just takes away from the flow of camera control a little bit.
The size of the camera is a little... Well, Hefty. If you have tight pants on you might not be able to pocket this camera. Generally speaking it is a pocketable camera but just.
All in all I think you can not go wrong with this camera and I hope you consider it.

My favorite all-purpose camera for family
I recently purchased an olympus e-pl1 and then spent 2 months choosing its purseable sidekick. Although for my purposes (mostly low-light and movies), I chose the HX5V, the Samsung came in at a very close second. It has a highly-customizable movie mode, a powerful flash, great color accuracy, SHARP pictures, and a 15X zoom. Since I'm not sure about sending an actual link, you should be able to find that the samsung hz35w (with a better screen & gps) was the tied winner for a review titled "compact travel zoom test". I don't care about gps and the screen was fine as far as i'm concerned. I think this is the BEST value you can get in a digital camera, period. It will never turn your subjects "day-glo" orange in low light.

Excellent Digital Camera For The Money
I don't know what the other people who've commented on this camera's experience is with cameras;but my son is a 20 yrs experienced pro photographer and rates this camera "Very High" for it's quality "for the price". He said he has Cannon SLR cameras that don't take any better photos than this one. Samsung has really done their homework on this little digital camera! He says some people expect too much from a budget camera. He recommends this camera "Very Highly" for a budget camera. My son says,if anyone has trouble with shots with this camera (indoors or outdoors)they are not setting the camera's settings properly or they have a defective camera.

A great camera for the price!
I have been a very happy Canon user for the last few years but my trusty Canon stopped recognizing memory cards on the day BEFORE Christmas Eve and couldn't afford a new Canon. So being in the the market for a lower end camera, I did as much research as I could before heading off to buy one. I actually chose a Nikon Coolpix L20 first and disliked it so much that I returned it in less than 24 hours.
I chose the Samsung SL30 to replace the Nikon and though it's not perfect, it's much preferable. This little camera takes excellent pictures most of the time and they have very true colors.
The controls on the camera are all guided menus on the generously-sized LCD screen that is easy to see in all but the brightest sunlight. This camera has good macro and focus settings and flash settings, face detection and all kinds of things I would expect on higher end cameras, including digital image stabilization which works well most of the time. This little camera works well in low light and takes decent movies.
I am using the super high lithium batteries and have had them in the camera for over 6 months. So for those who have complained of it gobbling batteries, if you use really good ones, you should have no problems.

Questions & Answers
Question : What is the indication that my samsung digital camera is charged ?
what is the indication that my samsung digital camera is charged ?
Answer:
It depends on your camera. But usually there's a bar - similar to those on cell phones - that show how full the battery is. That bar gets shorter as the battery drains. Always good to keep the battery charged by the time it gets to the 1/2-1/3 mark in case a great shooting oppty comes up and you don't have a couple hours to charge.I always carry a spare charged battery (and extra memory cd) with me too...

Question : How can I take professional looking photos with a basic Samsung digital camera?
My daughter is 6 months old and we have her pictures taken every 3 months...basically i'm tired of paying to have them done so I would love to take and learn how to make my pictures look professional with my digital camera!
Answer:
1] Get to know what your camera is capable of doing, so experiment a lot.2] If you must use the flash, place a piece of tissue paper over it to diffuse it. Hold it in place by some blu tack.3] Use a plain background. A bedsheet etc will do.4] Put the camera on a tripod and use a remote (if available) release.5] If using natural light, get a reflector to add additional light onto the subject. A cheap one will be one of those sun reflectors you put on your car dashboard.6] Download some free software to assist in editing your pics, like sharpening, cropping, soft focus etc.7] Dont take pics to close to the subject. Stand back a bit and zoom in.Hope this helps.

Question : Change image size on samsung bl103 digital camera?
I just got a samsung camera and when taking pictures they come out HUGE...How do I change the setting so the pictures take a little smaller?
Answer:
NO, no, no, no, no - don't EVER do that!!!You should never EVER set your camera to anything less than best quality (i.e. lowest compression rate) and biggest size (highest resolution). The reasons for that include:1) If you have a good, large photo, you can crop it more later on without losing too much detail if you really have to.2) If you happen to take the best photo you ever took, you'll be able to print it at a large size. If you lowered size and quality, you'd be kicking yourself.3) If you decide later you really don't want to keep a big file, it is very easy to down-size it in post processing - but you can't go the other way, you can't invent pixels that weren't there in the first place.4) Memory cards are cheap, so are bigger hard drives. There is NO reason to do anything less than the best.

Question : What memory card is needed for a Samsung L200 digital camera?
I have a san disk 256 mg, would that work with a samsung camera?
Answer:
This camera uses an SD memory card, you don't say what type of memory card your San Disk card is so I can't tell you if it will work or not.If it's a small, thin rectangle and says 'SD' on the bottom left then it will work with your camera. If its a square and says 'CF' then it will not work.Hope this helps.Thomas

Question : Samsung digital camera, what am I doing wrong?
I just bought a samsung ES55 digital camera and I can only seem to store 19 pictures on the actual camera. I don't have a memory card in it but can buy and put one in if needs be. I have reduced the quality of the pics I am taking and put everything that could take up memory to the lowest possible setting. Is this normal because I can't believe for an £80 camera you would only store 19 pics???? Does this mean a memory card is essential for use?
Answer:
You're not doing anything wrong. The internal memory is very small.Yes you'll want / need a memory card. It will store far more than the internal.By the way, read your owner's manual to learn what size and style of card you need and your camera will support before you go buy.
